Led by Damon Albarn, the music collective’s new project features South African and European artists such as BCUC, Otim Alpha (Nyege Nyege), Poté, Dominowe and DJ Spoko.
Created in 2006, Africa Express just announced Egoli, new release to be out on July 12th. Recorded in seven days in a South African studio, the 18 tracks channel several influences though the many collaborations it features.
“Egoli” means “Golden City” in Xhosa language, one of the official South African languages, and is a term used to designate Johannesburg. The first excerpt from the album is precisely called “Johannesburg”, featuring Gruff Rhys from the Super Furry Animals and notorious South African artists Morena Leraba, Radio 123 and Sibot on a boom-bap instrumental with nostalgic synths.
“No Games”, second excerpt from the release features Muzi, Ghetts, Moonchild Sanelly, Poté, Sho Madjozi and Radio 123 on a sensual dancehall beat with Soul-ish vocals.

Egoli will be out on July 12th on Africa Express Records. Pre-order it on any platform.
